Musical Style
Zebra Katz has a unique musical style. He has often spoken about how he doesn't like being put into a specific music group. He believes his music should be seen for itself, not just for who he is.
"Ima Read"
One of Zebra Katz's most famous songs is "Ima Read." Even though he wasn't deeply involved with "voguing" at first, the song became strongly linked to this dance style. This happened around the time a famous documentary about voguing, Paris is Burning, was celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Zebra Katz really loves ballroom culture and voguing. He has performed at events like the GMHC House of Latex Ball. He also supports important figures in the voguing world, like DJ MikeQ.
Less Is Moor Album
Zebra Katz's first album, Less Is Moor, came out in 2020. The idea for the album started when Morgan was a student at the New School's Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts. For his final school project, he created a performance called "Moor Contradictions." This show included monologues and raps from different characters he made up. One of these characters was Zebra Katz.
The album's title, Less Is Moor, is inspired by the Moors people. Zebra Katz explains that artists of color often have to be more creative with fewer resources. He was inspired by artists like James Baldwin, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, and Little Richard. The album mixes hip-hop, drum 'n' bass, and electronic music. It shows off Katz's sharp lyrics through its strong rhythms.
