Nkroful is a small village in Ghana, a country in West Africa. It is the main town of the Ellembelle District in the Western Region. Nkroful is famous because it is the birthplace of Kwame Nkrumah. He was a very important leader and became Ghana's first president.

History of Nkroful
Nkroful has a long history. It was once part of the Western Nzema Kingdom, which started around the year 1470. Today, it is part of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area.
The first known chief of Nkroful was Kwesie Kutuah in 1911. In 2023, the main family leader of Nkroful was Abusuapanyinli Senza Erzah. The chief was Nana Kwasi Kutuah V.
Where is Nkroful?
Nkroful is located inland, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the main coastal highway. You can find it by turning off at the Essiama town junction.

Remembering Kwame Nkrumah
Nkroful is a special place because it is where Kwame Nkrumah was born. He was Ghana's first president.
After he passed away, Nkrumah was first buried in Guinea. Then, on July 9, 1972, his remains were brought to Nkroful. They were placed in a special burial site called a Mausoleum and monument. Later, in 1992, his remains were moved again. They were finally laid to rest at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra, Ghana's capital city.
