Early Life and Beginnings
Noa Tishby was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in May 1975. She grew up in a Jewish family that helped create the country of Israel. Her grandfather helped start one of the first kibbutz (a type of community farm) in Israel's history.
Noa started acting when she was very young. She was in commercials by the time she was 8 years old. As a teenager, she earned a special drama scholarship. She acted in plays and TV shows. She also served two and a half years in the Israel Defense Forces, which is Israel's military.
Her Career in Entertainment
Noa Tishby became famous in Israel in the 1990s. She acted in an Israeli TV drama called Ramat Aviv Gimmel. She also played the role of Anita in a play of West Side Story. She released an English music album named Nona. She also worked as a model, appearing on magazine covers. In the early 2000s, she moved to Los Angeles, USA.
By 2006, Noa Tishby had many roles on American TV shows. These included Star Trek, Nip/Tuck, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Charmed. She also had a part in the 2005 movie The Island.
Bringing Israeli Shows to America
In 2008, Noa Tishby sold an Israeli TV drama called BeTipul to HBO. This was a big deal because it was the first time an Israeli TV show format became an American show. The American version was called In Treatment. It started in 2008, and Noa Tishby was a co-executive producer. She worked alongside Mark Wahlberg.
In Treatment ran for three seasons from 2008 to 2010. It came back for a fourth season in 2021, with Noa Tishby still helping to produce it. The show is about therapy sessions and won an award called a Peabody Award in 2009. During and after the show's first run, Noa continued to act in shows like NCIS and Big Love.
Noa Tishby also started her own production company called Noa's Arc. Through her company, she helped create American versions of other Israeli shows. For example, she helped adapt A Touch Away. She also worked on Life Isn't Everything, which was later called Divorce: A Love Story in America.
Writing Her First Book
In April 2021, Noa Tishby released her first book. It is titled Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth. The book talks about Israel's history and culture. It also shares some of Noa's own life experiences. In the book, she supports Israel and speaks against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The book was published by Simon & Schuster.
Activism for Israel
Noa Tishby has been an activist who supports Israel since at least 2011. That year, she started an online group called Act for Israel. She created this group to help correct wrong information about Israel's history, culture, and government.
Noa Tishby has strongly criticized the BDS movement. She believes it spreads "misinformation" and "lies" about Israel. She also called Amnesty International's description of Israel as an apartheid state "disgraceful".
In 2014, she started another group called Reality Israel. This group organizes "leadership trips" to Israel for both Jewish and non-Jewish people. She has also spoken at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. She spoke there in 2016 and 2018 to support Israel. In February 2021, she joined the Black–Jewish Entertainment Alliance.
Special Envoy Role
In April 2022, Noa Tishby was appointed as the Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism and the Delegitimization of Israel. This was a new position, and she was the first person to hold it. She was appointed by the Prime Minister at the time, Yair Lapid.
However, in April 2023, she was removed from this position. This happened after she spoke out against a proposed judicial reform. This reform was suggested by the new government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, Noa Tishby has been a strong voice for Israel in the U.S. In 2024, she wrote about how social media is a big place for antisemitism to grow. She mentioned how anonymity and fake accounts contribute to this. She asked social media companies to do more to check content. She also asked them to use the IHRA definition of antisemitism. She called on governments to make stronger laws against hate speech. She also asked groups in society to fight antisemitism in education.
Personal Life
Noa Tishby was married to Australian TV presenter Osher Günsberg from 2008 to 2011. Later, she had a son named Ari in November 2015 with financier Ross Hinkle. Noa and Ross are no longer together, but they both help raise Ari. Noa is still on good terms with both Osher Günsberg and Ross Hinkle.
In 2022, Noa Tishby became the 11,000th person to sign the Jewish Future Pledge. This is a charity campaign that encourages American Jews to give at least half of their charity money to Jewish or Israel-related causes.
