What Was Noble Energy?
Noble Energy was an important company that focused on finding and bringing up oil and natural gas from the ground. This process is called "exploration and production." Oil and natural gas are natural resources that we use for energy, like powering cars and heating homes.
A Spin-Off Company
In 1985, Noble Energy created a separate company called Noble Drilling Corporation. This new company was given to Noble Energy's shareholders. Later, in the early 1990s, Noble Drilling Corporation became a public company. This means its shares could be bought and sold by anyone. It eventually changed its name to Noble Corporation and grew to be a very important company. It even joined a special group of the largest companies called the S&P 500.
