Nobuo Kawakami (born October 4, 1947) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented Midfielder and Defender. Kawakami played for the Japan national team during the 1970s.

Club Career: Playing for Hitachi

Nobuo Kawakami was born in Saitama, Japan. After finishing his studies at Rikkyo University, he joined the football club Hitachi in 1971.

During his time with Hitachi, the team achieved great success. They won the Japan Soccer League championship in 1972. Hitachi also won the prestigious Emperor's Cup twice, in 1972 and 1975.

Kawakami played 128 games for Hitachi and scored 7 goals. He was recognized as one of the best players in the league. He was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team in both 1972 and 1975. He retired from playing club football in 1978.

National Team Career: Representing Japan

Nobuo Kawakami made his first appearance for the Japan national team on July 31, 1970. At that time, he was still a student at Rikkyo University. His debut match was against the Hong Kong team.

He represented Japan in several important international tournaments. These included the 1970 Asian Games and the 1974 Asian Games. Kawakami also played in qualifying matches for the 1974 and 1978 World Cups. He also participated in the qualifying rounds for the 1976 Summer Olympics.

Kawakami played a total of 41 games for the Japan national team before his final match in 1977.
