Nobuo Kawakami (川上 信夫, born October 4, 1947) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder or defender. Kawakami was a key player for the Japan national team during the 1970s.

Playing for Clubs

Nobuo Kawakami was born in Saitama, Japan, on October 4, 1947. After finishing his studies at Rikkyo University, he joined the football club Hitachi in 1971.

Club Successes

Kawakami's time with Hitachi was very successful. The club won the Japan Soccer League championship in 1972. They also won the Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament, in both 1972 and 1975. Kawakami played 128 games for Hitachi and scored 7 goals during his career. He was recognized as one of the best players in the league. He was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team in 1972 and again in 1975. He retired from playing club football in 1978.

Playing for Japan

Nobuo Kawakami also had an important career playing for his country. Even while he was still a student at Rikkyo University, he made his first appearance for the Japan national team. This happened on July 31, 1970, in a match against Hong Kong.

International Tournaments

Kawakami represented Japan in several big tournaments. He played in the football events at the 1970 Asian Games and the 1974 Asian Games. He also took part in the qualification matches for the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cups. Additionally, he played in the qualification games for the 1976 Summer Olympics. He played a total of 41 games for Japan before his international career ended in 1977.
