Nonnie Griffin (October 20, 1933 – June 7, 2019) was a talented Canadian actress. She worked in films, on stage, in television shows, and as a voice artist. Nonnie studied acting at the Toronto Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She even learned from the famous mime artist Marcel Marceau. On stage, she played Mrs. Rafi in The Sea in Toronto. She also starred as the main character in Hello, Dolly! for ten months in 1990.

About Nonnie Griffin's Career

Nonnie Griffin was a very experienced actress. She did a lot of voice work for cartoons. For example, she was the voice of Harmony Bear in Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (1986). She also voiced Funshine Bear in the Care Bears TV series. Nonnie also lent her voice to Star Wars: Ewoks. She was Mrs. Suey-Ellen Pig in The Raccoons episodes "Mom's the Word!" and "Promises Promises!". Her voice was also heard in Wild Life, an animated film nominated for an Academy Award in 2012.

Television and Film Appearances

Nonnie made guest appearances on many TV shows. These included Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, King of Kensington, and RoboCop: The Series. She also appeared in Forever Knight, Street Legal, and Doc. Kids might remember her from the children's TV series, Polka Dot Door. In 1956, she played Diana Barry in the first TV version of Anne of Green Gables.

She also acted in several movies. Some of these films were The Believers, The Abduction, and Good Fences. Other movies included A Husband, a Wife and a Lover and If You Could See What I Hear.

Nonnie's Own Plays

Nonnie was also a writer! She wrote a play called Sister Annunciata’s Secret. In this play, she played six different characters herself. The play was shown at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012. It also appeared at the Hamilton Fringe Festival.

Nonnie wrote another play called Marilyn-After. This was a one-woman show where she imagined Marilyn Monroe coming back to life. The play was performed in Stratford, Ontario, in 2014. It also played in Toronto and Hamilton. Nonnie toured with this show in 2015. She even won "Best International Show" at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City.

Nonnie also wrote a diary about her career. It was published as a book called Showbiz and other Addictions. It shares stories from her time on stages across Canada.

Nonnie Griffin's Passing

Nonnie Griffin passed away at the age of 85. She died from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. At the time, she was getting ready for a new solo show. It was about Margaret Mitchell, the author of Gone with the Wind.
