The Nor'Wester Mountains are a collection of peaks that stand out in the landscape. They are a special part of the geography near Thunder Bay.

Mount McKay: The Highest Peak

Mount McKay is the tallest and most well-known mountain in this group. It's also the most northern peak. Mount McKay reaches an elevation of 483 meters (about 1,585 feet) above sea level. It's a very recognizable sight for anyone in Thunder Bay.

Other Important Peaks

While Mount McKay is the most famous, there are many other important peaks in the Nor'Wester Mountains. These include Godfrey, Hurlburt, Johnson, Matchett, McRae, McQuaig, Rose, and Squaretop. Each of these mountains adds to the beauty of the range.

Waterways of the Nor'Westers

The mountains are also home to some interesting waterways.

Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is a lake that collects most of the water runoff from the Nor'Wester Mountains. This lake sits about 287 meters (942 feet) above sea level. The water from Loch Lomond then flows into the Lomond River.

Whiskeyjack Creek

A smaller area of the mountain slopes, located south of Mount McKay, is drained by Whiskeyjack Creek. This creek helps carry water away from that part of the mountains.
