Nordanstig Municipality (Nordanstigs kommun) is a local area in Gävleborg County, located in east-central Sweden. It is like a small region with its own local government.
The main town where the local government is based is called Bergsjö.
This municipality was formed in 1974. Several smaller areas, including Bergsjö, Gnarp, Hassela, and Harmånger, joined together to create it. The name "Nordanstig" came from an old church area called Nordanstigs kontrakt. This name was suggested in 1916 by Nathan Söderblom, who was a very important church leader (the archbishop of Uppsala).
The official symbol, or municipal arms, for Nordanstig was created in the mid-1980s. It shows a horse, which represents the important forest and farming industries in the area. A fishing net is also shown, symbolizing the fishing industry. The net has six holes, which stand for the six main church areas (parishes) that make up the municipality: Hassela, Bergsjö, Ilsbo, Gnarp, Jättendal, and Harmånger.
A famous person from Nordanstig Municipality is André Myhrer. He was born in Bergsjö and won an Olympic gold medal in slalom skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang!
