History
Norden got its name from an early settler who came from a town called Norden in Germany. It's a way to remember their homeland!
Post Office and Community Life
A post office was opened in Norden in 1884. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. It stayed open for a long time, until 1960.
The Famous Norden Dance Hall
One of the most special places in Norden is the Norden Dance Hall. People built this hall by hand between 1929 and 1931. This was during a very tough time called the Great Depression, when many people didn't have jobs or much money.
The hall quickly became a central gathering spot. Generations of families have met there to socialize, bond, and dance. For over 120 years, the hall has hosted the town's annual barn dance, which is a big event for the community.
Surviving the Fairfield Creek Fire
In June 2012, a large fire called the Fairfield Creek Fire swept through the area. Much of Norden was burned. However, the Norden Dance Hall was one of the very few buildings that managed to survive the fire. It still stands today as a symbol of the community's history and spirit.
