Nordenskjold Glacier is a very large glacier located on the island of South Georgia. This island is in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean.
A glacier is like a giant, slow-moving river of ice. Nordenskjold Glacier flows towards the north. It ends in a place called Cumberland East Bay, which is on the northern coast of South Georgia. The place where a glacier ends is called its terminus.
About Nordenskjold Glacier
This glacier was explored and mapped by a group called the Swedish Antarctic Expedition. This expedition was a scientific journey to the Antarctic region. It took place between 1901 and 1903.
The glacier was named after the leader of that expedition, a famous explorer named Otto Nordenskiöld. So, the glacier carries his name to honor his work.
Near the top of the glacier, there is a mountain peak called Sheridan Peak.
