Norfolk is a small community, sometimes called a hamlet, located in St. Lawrence County, New York, in the United States. It's also known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area defined for gathering population information.

In 2020, about 1,238 people lived here. Norfolk is part of the larger Town of Norfolk.

History of Norfolk

People first started settling in the Norfolk community around the year 1816. This makes it a place with a long history in New York State.

Geography and Location

Norfolk is located at coordinates 44.79941 degrees North and -74.990963 degrees West.

The United States Census Bureau says that the CDP covers a total area of about 2.8 square miles (7.2 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.7 square miles (6.9 square kilometers), is land. A smaller part, about 0.1 square mile (0.2 square kilometers), is water.

Norfolk is found along New York State Route 56. It's also where several County Roads meet, like Roads 38, 38A, and 47. The Raquette River flows right through the middle of the community.
