Norihiro Yamagishi (山岸 範宏, born on May 17, 1978) is a Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several teams during his career.

Playing Career Highlights

Norihiro Yamagishi was born in Kumagaya, Japan, on May 17, 1978. After finishing university, he joined the J1 League club Urawa Reds in 2001. This team was based in his home area, Saitama Prefecture.

Time with Urawa Reds

Yamagishi started playing for Urawa Reds in 2002. He quickly became the main goalkeeper for the team. However, in 2003, another player named Ryota Tsuzuki joined the team. Yamagishi and Tsuzuki then competed for the goalkeeper spot until 2010.

During his time with Urawa Reds, the team achieved many successes. They won the 2003 J.League Cup in 2003. In 2005, even though Yamagishi didn't play much, the Reds won the Emperor's Cup. In 2006, he became the main goalkeeper again from May. That year, Urawa Reds won the J1 League championship.

Yamagishi faced tough competition for his position again from 2007. But in September 2009, he returned as the regular goalkeeper. In 2010, he played in all 34 matches of the season. After 2011, he played fewer games as Nobuhiro Kato became the main goalkeeper. By 2014, a new player, Shusaku Nishikawa, joined, and Yamagishi did not play any matches that year.

Move to Montedio Yamagata

In June 2014, Yamagishi moved to Montedio Yamagata, a club in the J2 League. He quickly became their main goalkeeper. He made history in Japanese football during the 2014 J2 League playoffs. In a crucial match against Júbilo Iwata, he scored a goal in the 91st minute! This goal, a header from a corner kick, made the score 1-1. This result allowed Montedio to move on to the final.

Montedio Yamagata won the playoff final and was promoted to the J1 League. They also finished second in the 2014 Emperor's Cup that year. In 2015, Yamagishi played in all 34 matches for Montedio. However, the team finished last in the J1 League and was moved back down to J2 at the end of the season. He continued to play for Montedio until the end of the 2016 season.

Final Club and Retirement

After three seasons with Montedio Yamagata, Yamagishi joined Giravanz Kitakyushu in 2017. This team had just been moved down to the J3 League. Norihiro Yamagishi retired from playing football at the end of the 2018 season. He played a total of 258 league games and scored 1 goal in his career.
