History of North Lawrence

North Lawrence was first established in 1852. When it was first created, it was simply called Lawrence. The community got its name from the township it is located in, Lawrence Township.

A few years later, in 1854, a post office was opened in the area. To avoid confusion with other places named Lawrence, the post office was named North Lawrence. This is how the community eventually became known as North Lawrence. The area also includes a small part called Bowdil, Ohio.
