North Topsail Beach is a small town in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on the beautiful Topsail Island. In 2020, about 1,005 people lived there. This town is part of the larger Jacksonville area.

A Look Back at North Topsail Beach

In the 1940s, a special community called Ocean City was created here. It was a place where African Americans could buy land and enjoy vacations. The idea came from Edgar L. Yow, a white attorney, and Samuel Gray, a Black physician.

Wade H. Chestnut and his wife Caronell were important leaders in developing this community. They owned the very first home there. In July 2022, a historical marker was planned. This marker will be part of the state's Civil Rights Trail, remembering the history of Ocean City.
