History of North Vernon
North Vernon was first called Tripton. It was officially planned out and named in 1854.
Several important places in North Vernon are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include Annadale, the North Vernon Downtown Historic District, the State Street Historic District, and the Walnut Street Historic District. These places are recognized for their historical importance.
