Northern Ireland sent a team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games! These exciting games took place in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8, 2022. This was the twentieth time Northern Ireland had taken part in the Commonwealth Games.
Two amazing athletes, lawn bowler Martin McHugh and boxer Michaela Walsh, proudly carried the flag for Northern Ireland at the opening ceremony.
The 2022 Games were a huge success for Northern Ireland! They won more gold medals than ever before, tied their record for silver medals, and earned their highest number of medals overall. It was a truly memorable event for Team Northern Ireland!

Athletics
Northern Ireland had a strong team in athletics. Ciara Mageean won a silver medal in the women's 1500 metres, showing incredible speed and endurance. Kate O'Connor also earned a silver medal in the women's heptathlon, a tough event that tests many different athletic skills.
Badminton
Rachael Darragh represented Northern Ireland in badminton. She played well, winning her first two matches before being stopped in the quarterfinals.
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball
Northern Ireland's men's 3x3 wheelchair basketball team competed after winning a special European qualifier. The team included Matt Rollston, Nathan McCabe, Conn Nagle, and James MacSorley. They finished in 5th place overall, a great achievement!
Boxing
Boxing was a huge success for Northern Ireland, bringing home five gold medals!

Cycling
Northern Ireland had cyclists competing in road, track, and mountain biking events. Matthew Teggart had a strong performance in the men's road race, finishing 4th, just missing a medal. Darren Rafferty also did well in the men's time trial, placing 8th.
Diving
Tanya Watson represented Northern Ireland in diving. She competed in the women's 10 metre platform event, reaching the final and finishing in 10th place.
Gymnastics
In artistic gymnastics, Rhys McClenaghan won a silver medal in the men's pommel horse, showing off his amazing strength and balance. Other gymnasts like Eamon Montgomery and Ewan McAteer also reached finals in their events.
Judo
Northern Ireland's judo team earned two bronze medals. Nathon Burns won bronze in the men's 66 kg category, and Yasmin Javadian took bronze in the women's 52 kg category.
Lawn Bowls
Lawn bowls was another medal-winning sport for Northern Ireland. The men's fours team, made up of Sam Barkley, Adam McKeown, Ian McClure, and Martin McHugh, won a fantastic gold medal. Gary Kelly also won a silver medal in the men's singles event.
Netball
Northern Ireland's netball team competed in the women's tournament. The team included players like Caroline O'Hanlon and Michelle Drayne. They played several tough matches against strong teams, securing a win against Trinidad and Tobago. They finished 10th overall.
Swimming
Northern Ireland's swimmers had a great showing, winning one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

- Daniel Wiffen earned a silver medal in the men's 1500 metre freestyle.
- Barry McClements took home a bronze medal in the men's 100 metre backstroke S9.

Table Tennis

In triathlon, Chloe MacCombe (with guide Catherine A Sands) won a silver medal in the women's PTVI event, which is for visually impaired athletes. This was a fantastic achievement in a very challenging sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running.
Weightlifting
Northern Ireland had two female weightlifters compete. Hannah Crymble finished 6th in the women's 59 kg event, and Caroline Doyle finished 9th in the women's 64 kg event. They showed great strength and technique.
