Northern Mindanao is a special area in the Philippines. It is also known as Region X. Think of it like a big neighborhood with its own main city. The main city for Northern Mindanao is Cagayan de Oro.

This region is made up of five different provinces. These are Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, and Lanao del Norte.

Northern Mindanao is located on the island of Mindanao. It is a very important part of the country. Many people live here, and it has a lot of interesting places.

Provinces and Cities

The region has five provinces, each with its own unique features.

  • Bukidnon is known for its cool climate and vast pineapple plantations.
  • Camiguin is a small island province famous for its volcanoes and hot springs.
  • Lanao del Norte has beautiful waterfalls and coastal areas.
  • Misamis Occidental is home to lovely beaches and historical sites.
  • Misamis Oriental is where the regional center, Cagayan de Oro, is located.

Besides the provinces, Northern Mindanao also has nine important cities. These cities are busy centers for trade and culture.

  • Cagayan de Oro is the biggest city and the heart of the region.
  • Iligan is famous for its many waterfalls, especially Maria Cristina Falls.
  • Other cities include El Salvador, Gingoog, Malaybalay, Oroquieta, Ozamiz, Tangub, and Valencia.

Population and Area

In 2015, about 4.7 million people lived in Northern Mindanao. The region covers a large area of about 20,496 square kilometers. This means it has plenty of space for both cities and natural landscapes.
