Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Northport is a small place in Morrill County, Nebraska, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county, which is Morrill County.

The Story of Northport: A Look Back in Time

Northport's story began to really take shape around the year 1900. This was when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, often called the CB&Q, built a new railway line. This line connected Northport to the main "Burlington route" from Alliance, Nebraska. Railroads were super important back then for moving people and goods across the country!

A post office was opened in Northport in 1910. This was a big deal because it meant people could send and receive mail right there. The post office served the community for many years until it closed in 1975. Northport got its name because of where it is located: on the north bank of the North Platte River.
