Northspur is a small, unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California. It's a place that doesn't have its own local government, but it's still a recognized area. Northspur is located along the California Western Railroad, about 11 miles (18 km) north of Comptche. It sits at an elevation of 358 feet (109 meters) above sea level.

A Look Back in Time
Long ago, Northspur was a much busier place. It once had about 400 people living there. Many of these residents worked in the logging industry, which was very important in the area. However, as logging activities decreased, the community's population also declined. By 1974, only a few people still lived in Northspur. They relied completely on the California Western Railroad for transportation, as it was their main way to travel in and out of the community.
Northspur Today
Today, Northspur is primarily a popular stop on the Skunk Train route. When the train stops here, passengers can get off and enjoy a break. During certain seasons, visitors can find refreshments and entertainment available. It's a fun place to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery during a train ride.
Northspur also had its own post office for a short time. It operated from 1910 until 1922.
