How Nuclear Blast Started
Nuclear Blast began in 1987. The founder, Markus Staiger, was inspired after seeing his favorite band, BL'AST!, play in the United States. The very first album they released was a vinyl record called Senseless Death. It featured hardcore bands from the U.S.
Big Achievements in Music
Nuclear Blast has helped many bands become very successful. In 2002, the Swedish band Meshuggah was the first Nuclear Blast band to appear on the Billboard 200 chart. Their album, Nothing, reached number 165. Meshuggah was also the first band from the label to be reviewed in Rolling Stone magazine.
In 2004, the Finnish band Nightwish released their album Once with Nuclear Blast. This album became number 1 in many countries, including Finland and Germany. It was the first time a Nuclear Blast album reached the top spot in Germany.
Later, in 2015, the band Slayer released Repentless. This album reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. This made it the highest-charting Nuclear Blast release in the United States.
Signing Famous Metal Bands
During the 2000s and 2010s, Nuclear Blast signed many well-known thrash metal bands. These included Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Anthrax, Kreator, and Sepultura.
New Logo and Video Game Features
In June 2022, Nuclear Blast showed off a new logo. Some people noticed it looked a bit like the logo for a canned water company called Liquid Death. Liquid Death even made a joke about it.
On August 23, 2022, the video game Saints Row was released. This game has a radio station that plays music from Nuclear Blast artists.
