The Story of Nuclear Blast
Nuclear Blast started in 1987. The founder, Markus Staiger, was inspired after seeing his favorite band, BL'AST!, play in the United States.
The very first music released by the label was a vinyl record called Senseless Death. It featured hardcore bands from the U.S.
Breaking Records with Music
In 2002, the Swedish band Meshuggah made history for Nuclear Blast. Their album, Nothing, was the first from the label to appear on the Billboard 200 music chart in the U.S. This chart lists the most popular albums. Rolling Stone magazine also reviewed Meshuggah, which was a big deal for the label.
In 2004, the Finnish band Nightwish released their album Once with Nuclear Blast. This album became super popular. It reached number one on music charts in many countries, including Germany, Finland, and Norway. It was the first time a Nuclear Blast release hit number one in Germany. Around this time, Nuclear Blast also started making DVD collections of their music videos.
Welcoming Metal Legends
During the 2000s and 2010s, Nuclear Blast signed many famous thrash metal bands. These included legendary groups like Slayer, Exodus, Testament, and Anthrax. Other well-known bands like Kreator, Overkill, and Sepultura also joined the label.
In 2015, Slayer released their album Repentless. This album reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. It became the highest-charting album for Nuclear Blast in the United States.
New Beginnings and Changes
In 2021, Markus Staiger, who founded Nuclear Blast, started a new record company. He named it Atomic Fire GmbH.
In June 2022, Nuclear Blast showed off a new logo. The new design caused some talk because it looked a bit like the logo for a canned water company called Liquid Death. Liquid Death made a joke about it, which led to some confusion. They quickly said sorry, explaining their joke was aimed at Nuclear Blast, not the logo designer.
On August 23, 2022, a video game called Saints Row was released. This game features a radio station inside the game that plays music from Nuclear Blast artists.
