Nuevo Tarapacá is a town in Peru. It is located in the Maynas Province, within the Fernando Lores District. This district is part of the Loreto Department. The town sits right on the banks of the Tamshiyacu River, close to the district's main town, Tamshiyacu.
A Brief History of Nuevo Tarapacá
Nuevo Tarapacá was founded by people who had to leave their homes. These were Peruvian refugees from a major conflict called the War of the Pacific. This war happened between 1879 and 1884 and involved Chile, Peru, and Bolivia.
Founding and Border Changes
The people who founded Nuevo Tarapacá first settled in a place also called Tarapacá. However, this area later became part of Colombia. This change happened because of an agreement called the Salomón-Lozano Treaty. This treaty was signed in 1922 and set the borders between Peru and Colombia.
A nearby town, Puerto Arica, had a similar story. It was originally part of Colombia but later became part of Peru. These changes show how borders can shift over time due to treaties and historical events.
