Nulsen is a suburb located to the west of Esperance. Esperance is a town found in the south-eastern part of Western Australia. Nulsen is managed by the Shire of Esperance, which acts like its local council.

How Nulsen Got Its Name

Nulsen became an official suburb in 1971. When it was first created, it also included the nearby area of Sinclair. However, Sinclair became its own separate suburb in 1985.

The suburb was originally planned as a housing project by the government. It was named after Emil Nulsen, an important politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Australian Labor Party. He served in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1932 to 1962. From 1950 onwards, he represented the Esperance area.

In 2021, a census showed that 1,083 people lived in Nulsen.

Where is Nulsen Located?

Nulsen is about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) northwest of Esperance's main town center.

The suburb has clear boundaries:

  • To the north, it is bordered by the railway line.
  • To the east, it is next to Harbour Road.
  • To the south, Pink Lake Road forms its boundary.
