A Bit of History
The town was originally named Azaña. This name came from an old Latin word, Façania.
However, the name changed during the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, a group called the Numancia regiment took control of the town. After the war, the government at the time decided to rename it. They changed it to Numancia de la Sagra. This was done to remove any connection to the former president, Manuel Azaña.
