A Look Back: College History
Nunavut Arctic College started in 1995. But its story began even earlier, in 1968. That's when the government of the Northwest Territories created a training center for adults. This center helped people learn useful job skills.
College Locations and Campuses
Nunavut Arctic College has three main campuses. It also has 24 smaller learning centers. These centers are spread out in communities across Nunavut.
- Nunavut Arctic College's main office is in Arviat.
- The Kitikmeot Campus is in Cambridge Bay.
- The Kivalliq Campus is in Rankin Inlet. This campus includes the Nunavut Trades Training Centre.
- The Nunatta Campus is located in Iqaluit.
- The Nunavut Research Institute has offices in Iqaluit, Arviat, Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet, and Igloolik.
- The Piqqusilirivvik Inuit Cultural Learning Centre is in Clyde River. It has smaller spots in Baker Lake and Igloolik.
If you are a full-time student, you can live on campus. This is available at all three main campuses.
Working Together: College Partnerships
The college works with other schools and groups. These partnerships help students get even more learning chances.
- The college hosts classes for the Akitsiraq Law School.
- It is part of the University of the Arctic.
- The Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP) works with Memorial University. This program helps train new teachers for Nunavut.
- The Nursing Program works with Dalhousie University. This helps students become nurses.
Nunavut Arctic College is an active member of the University of the Arctic (UArctic). UArctic is a large group of schools and organizations. They are all interested in education and research in the Arctic region. There are over 200 members in this group.
The college also takes part in UArctic’s north2north program. This program lets students study in different parts of the North. It helps them experience new places and cultures.
