The Nyctimystes dux is a type of tree frog that lives in Papua New Guinea. Scientists have only found this frog near a place called Yuwong Village, which is on the Huon Peninsula. There's a bit of a debate among scientists about whether this frog should be called Litoria dux or Nyctimystes dux.
About This Frog
This special frog has bright red eyes. It also has special pads on its front feet, which are called nuptial pads. These pads help male frogs hold onto female frogs during mating.
Where It Lives
The Nyctimystes dux has only been seen in a small area of Papua New Guinea. This makes it a very rare frog! It lives in the forests around Yuwong Village.
Scientific Debates
Scientists often study animals to understand them better. For the Nyctimystes dux, some scientists believe it is its own unique species. However, other scientists think it might actually be the same kind of frog as the Northern New Guinea tree frog (which is also known as Litoria graminea). These kinds of debates are common in science as new information is discovered.
