Nyla Rose (born August 3, 1982) is an American professional wrestler and actress. She works for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). There, she was once the AEW Women's World Champion. Nyla also acted in the 2016 Canadian TV show The Switch.
Rose made history in 2019. She became the first openly transgender wrestler to sign with a major American wrestling company. This was when she joined AEW. The next year, she won the AEW Women's World Championship. This made her the first trans wrestler to win a major title in the United States.

Nyla Rose's Wrestling Journey
Starting Out (2013–2019)
From 2013 to 2019, Nyla Rose wrestled on the American independent circuit. This means she worked for smaller wrestling companies. Some of these included Women Superstars Uncensored. She also wrestled in Japan. There, she appeared with groups like Pro Wrestling Zero1.
All Elite Wrestling (2019–Present)
Nyla Rose joined All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in February 2019. She was the first openly transgender wrestler to sign with a big American company. Rose first appeared for AEW at their big event, Double or Nothing. She was in a four-way match.
At Fyter Fest, she wrestled in another three-way match. After the match, Rose attacked her opponents. This showed she was playing the role of a "heel." A heel is a wrestler who acts like a bad guy.
Rose then won the AEW Women's Casino Battle Royal at All Out. This win gave her a chance to become the first AEW Women's World Champion. On October 2, she lost the title match to Riho. But on February 12, 2020, Rose defeated Riho on Dynamite. She won the AEW Women's World Championship. This made her the first transgender woman to win a world title in a major U.S. wrestling company.
She successfully defended her title against Kris Statlander. This match happened at Revolution on February 29. On May 23, at Double or Nothing, Rose lost her title to Hikaru Shida. Later, on July 15, Rose introduced Vickie Guerrero as her manager. A manager helps a wrestler with their career.
In February 2021, Rose took part in a tournament. This was the AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament. She won against Tay Conti and Britt Baker. She then beat Thunder Rosa in the U.S. finals. However, she lost to Ryo Mizunami in the overall tournament finals.
On July 21, Rose challenged Britt Baker for the AEW Women's World Championship. This was at Fyter Fest. Rose lost the match by submission. On November 17, Rose entered the AEW Women's TBS Championship tournament. She defeated Hikaru Shida to move forward. But she lost to Ruby Soho in the semi-finals.
On April 16, 2022, Rose faced Thunder Rosa again. This was for the AEW Women's World Championship. The match was at AEW Battle of The Belts ll. Rose lost this championship match.
In December 2023, Rose wrestled in Oklahoma. Due to state rules about transgender athletes, AEW faced some issues. The head of AEW, Tony Khan, supported Nyla Rose. He said he was disappointed with the state's decision. He also showed his support for transgender rights.
Acting Career
Nyla Rose is also an actress. She was the main character in the 2016 Canadian TV series The Switch.
Writing
In 2022, Nyla Rose helped write a comic book. It was called Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird #1. She wrote it with Steve Orlando and artist David Cutler.
Personal Life
Nyla Rose is both Native American and African-American. Her Native heritage is from the Oneida tribe. She grew up watching wrestling with her grandmother. She started training to be a wrestler while in college. She also began her gender transition around the same time.
