Early Life and Education
Néziha Zarrouk was born on 12 December 1946 in Jemmal, a town close to Monastir. She studied hard and earned a master's degree in Arabic. This allowed her to become a teacher. She taught Arabic language and literature in high schools in Tunis.
Political Career and Women's Rights
Néziha Zarrouk started her political journey in 1987. She joined the Democratic Constitutional Rally (RCD) party.
Working for Women
From 1989, she took on an important role in the National Union of Tunisian Women. She even led its youth group. In March 1995, she became a deputy minister. Her job was to help with women's and family affairs. By November 1999, she became a full minister. This meant she led her own ministry focused on these important topics.
Improving Women's Health
In 1998, Néziha Zarrouk represented Tunisia at a big meeting. It was a United Nations meeting about "Women and Health" held in Tunis. She shared good news about how much women's rights and health had improved in Tunisia. She noted that women's life expectancy had increased by 22 years between 1966 and 1996. This showed great progress for women in the country.
Later Government Roles
In October 2001, she was given a new job. She became the Minister of Professional Training and Employment. She held this position until September 2002.
Diplomacy and Parliament
After her time as a minister, Néziha Zarrouk became a diplomat. From 2003 to 2005, she served as Tunisia's ambassador to Lebanon. An ambassador represents their country in another nation. From 2005 to 2011, she was also the vice-president of Tunisia's upper house of parliament, called the Chamber of Councillors.
Joining a New Party
In May 2019, Néziha Zarrouk joined a new political party. It is called Tahya Tounes. She joined it along with her brother, Mohamed Sahbi Basli.
