OWL/TV was a super cool Canadian TV show for kids! It aired from 1985 to 1994. The show was all about exploring nature and science. It taught young viewers how they can help protect our planet. It first showed on CBC, then later on CTV in Canada. Kids in the United States could watch it on PBS and Showtime. In the UK, it was on BBC and ITV. You might have even seen reruns on YTV! There was also a French version called Télé-Hibou for kids in Quebec on Canal Famille (now VRAK.TV).

What was OWL/TV all about?

Each episode of OWL/TV was about 30 minutes long. It mixed fun cartoons with serious topics about the world around us. The show had different parts, each teaching something new and exciting.

Awesome Segments You'd See!

  • Mighty Mites: Imagine being tiny enough to explore a world you can't normally see! Three kids in this segment had a magical power to shrink. They would discover amazing microscopic places.
  • Animals Close Up: This part of the show let kids get up close with different animals. They would meet real animals and talk to experts. These experts, called zoologists, would share cool facts about how animals live and behave.
  • Tomorrow Today: Ever wonder what the future might look like? This segment explored new ideas and inventions from a kid's point of view. It even took viewers inside real science labs!
  • Real Kids: This segment showed awesome young people who were making a difference. These kids were actively working to improve their environment. It taught everyone that no matter your age, you can help make the world a better place.
  • You and Your Body: Kids learned about their own bodies with the help of a funny skeleton named Bonepart. Bonepart was voiced by Michael Lennick.
  • Boneparte: This segment also featured Bonepart. He shared his excitement about taking action to protect the environment.
  • Dr. Zed: Dr. Zed helped kids understand how nature and science are connected. He showed them exciting and safe experiments they could try.
  • The Hoot Club Kids: This group of kids would set up and work on different projects. They would solve problems, experiment with materials, and interact with their community.

Behind the Scenes

The OWL/TV series was based on the popular OWL magazine. The show received early funding from PBS. The National Audubon Society also helped produce the series.

The catchy opening theme song for OWL/TV was sung by a talented voice actress and musician named Cree Summer Francks. The words for the song were written by Tim Ryan. Jonathan Goldsmith composed the music.
