Cree Summer Francks (born July 7, 1969) is an American-Canadian actress and singer. She is famous for her work as a voice actress in many animated shows. You might know her as the voice of Elmyra Duff in Tiny Toon Adventures or Susie Carmichael in Rugrats.
For her role as Lizard in Spirit Rangers, she won an NAACP Image Award. She was also nominated for two Children's and Family Emmy Awards.
Summer has voiced characters in many other cartoons. These include Inspector Gadget, Codename: Kids Next Door, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Puppy Dog Pals. She also acted in live-action shows. She played Winifred "Freddie" Brooks in the sitcom A Different World and has a role in Abbott Elementary.
Early Life
Cree Summer was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 7, 1969. She grew up in Saskatchewan and Toronto, Canada. Her parents, Don Francks and Lili Francks, were also actors.
During her childhood, her family lived in different places in British Columbia. She started going to public school in Toronto when she was nine. Her brother, Rainbow Sun Francks, is also an actor.
Career
Acting on TV and in Movies
Summer's acting career started in 1982 on a Canadian kids' show called Mr. Dressup. A year later, she was cast as Penny in the first season of Inspector Gadget.
In 1988, she joined the cast of A Different World, a spin-off of The Cosby Show. She played the character Winifred "Freddie" Brooks until the show ended in 1993.
Even while acting in A Different World, Summer continued to do voice work for cartoons. After the show, most of her work has been in voice acting. She has made guest appearances on live-action shows like Living Single and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She also has a recurring role as the librarian Rosalyn Inez on the ABC show Abbott Elementary.

Summer has voiced over 100 animated characters since 1983. Her voice has been in video games, cartoons, movies, and commercials.

Besides acting, Summer is also a singer. In 1999, she released her own album called Street Faërie, which was produced by musician Lenny Kravitz.
Many of the characters she voices are also singers. For example, Susie in All Grown Up! is a talented singer, and Summer sang the show's theme song. The character Foxxy Love in Drawn Together was also a singer. Summer has said her musical influences include artists like Frank Zappa and Al Green.
Personal Life
Summer has both American and Canadian citizenship. She was married to Angelo Pullen. Their marriage ended in May 2022. They have two daughters, born in 2011 and 2013.
Her younger brother, Rainbow Sun Francks, is a Canadian actor and songwriter.
