The Weekenders (also known as Disney's The Weekenders) is an American animated TV show. It was created by Doug Langdale. The series is all about the fun and adventures of four 12-year-old friends. They are Tino, Lor, Carver, and Tish. The show first aired on ABC and UPN. Later, it moved to Toon Disney.

Meet the Characters and Show's Story

The Weekenders follows the exciting weekend lives of four middle school students. They live in the fictional city of Bahia Bay. This city is based on San Diego, California.

The Main Friends

  • Tino Tonitini (voiced by Jason Marsden): Tino is a smart and funny Italian-American boy. He often narrates each episode. He shares his thoughts and what his friends are experiencing. Tino always ends his narration with "Well, later days."
  • Lorraine "Lor" McQuarrie (voiced by Grey DeLisle): Lor is a Scottish-American girl. She is a tomboy who loves sports. She can be a bit quick-tempered sometimes.
  • Carver Descartes (voiced by Phil LaMarr): Carver is an African-American boy. He is very proud and confident. He loves fashion and being cool.
  • Petratishkovna "Tish" Katsufrakis (voiced by Kath Soucie): Tish is a Jewish-American girl with Russian roots. She is super smart and loves to read. She always has a book with her.

Fun Parts of the Show

A funny thing happens in almost every episode. When the friends go out for pizza, the restaurant is always different. Each pizza place has a unique theme. For example, they might eat at a prison-themed restaurant. There, each table looks like a jail cell. Or they might visit an American Revolution-themed place. Waiters dress like the Founding Fathers and give speeches about pizza.

The show is also known for its special animation style. It looks similar to other shows like Rocket Power. Another cool thing is that the characters' outfits change in every episode. This was not common for animated shows back then.

The show's theme song is called "Livin' for the Weekend." It was sung by Wayne Brady. He also helped write the song with Roger Neill.

When and Where the Show Aired

The Weekenders first appeared on TV on February 26, 2000. It was part of Disney's One Saturday Morning on ABC.

From 2001 to 2002, you could also watch it on Disney's One Too on UPN. New episodes started airing on Toon Disney in September 2002. The very last episode aired on February 29, 2004.

Show's Popularity and Ratings

TV Guide magazine once said that The Weekenders was "the show that killed Pokémon." This was because ABC aired The Weekenders at 10:00 am. This was the same time Pokémon was on Kids' WB.

Reports from Variety and the New York Post also shared good news. They said The Weekenders became the number one show on Saturday morning TV. It took the top spot from Pokémon, which had been number one for 54 weeks in a row!
