Jason Christopher Marsden (born January 3, 1975) is an American actor, director, and producer. He is famous for his many voice roles in animated movies, TV shows, and video games. You might know his voice as Max Goof from Disney, Haku in Spirited Away, or Chester McBadbat in The Fairly OddParents. He also voiced Thackery Binx's cat form in the movie Hocus Pocus.
Early Life
Jason Marsden was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on January 3, 1975. His mother, Linda, used to be a fashion model. His father, Myles, was a lead ballet dancer.
Jason's Acting Career
Jason started acting professionally in 1986. His first role was A. J. Quartermaine in the TV series General Hospital. In 1987, when he was 12, he got a big movie role in the science fiction film Robot Jox. After that, he played Eddie Munster in the TV show The Munsters Today. At the same time, he voiced Cavin in Adventures of the Gummi Bears. He also became an announcer for The Mickey Mouse Club.
Jason continued to appear as a guest star on many TV shows. In 1990, he voiced Peter Pan in Peter Pan and the Pirates. In 1992, he played Dash X in Eerie, Indiana.
Voice of Thackery Binx
One of his most famous early voice roles was Thackery Binx. He voiced the cat form of Thackery Binx in the popular Disney movie Hocus Pocus (1993). He even returned to voice the character for a special Halloween show at Disney parks.
Disney and Other Voice Roles
Jason became the voice of Goofy's son, Max Goof, in Disney's A Goofy Movie (1995). He continued this role in the sequel An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000) and Disney's House of Mouse. He also voiced Garrett Miller on Extreme Ghostbusters. He played younger versions of Shere Khan and King Louie in Jungle Cubs.
Jason has voiced many characters in animated TV shows and video games. He was Kovu in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998). He also narrated special features on The Lion King DVD. He voiced Haku in the English version of Spirited Away (2001). You might also know him as Richie Foley/Gear in Static Shock. In the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn video game, he voiced Lilarcor, a talking sword.
He has worked on many DC Comics animated series. He voiced a teenage Clark Kent in Superman: The Animated Series. He was Snapper Carr in Justice League. He also voiced Billy Numerous in Teen Titans. Other roles include Danger Duck in Loonatics Unleashed and the villain Firefly in The Batman. More recently, he voiced Impulse and Atom in Young Justice: Invasion. From 2003 to 2006, he voiced Chase Young in Xiaolin Showdown.
Jason also voiced Tak in the video games Tak and the Power of Juju, Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams, and Tak: The Great Juju Challenge. He voiced characters like Myron in Fallout 2 and Boone in Fallout: New Vegas.
From 2004 to 2007, Jason was a main announcer for Toon Disney. He also worked part-time for Disney Channel. In 2012, he voiced Noel Kreiss in Final Fantasy XIII-2. He also voiced Kade Burns in Transformers: Rescue Bots. He continues to voice Nermal and other characters on The Garfield Show. In 2013, he voiced Aye-Aye in The Legend of Korra.
In 2014, he voiced Sumo and Belson in the pilot episode of Clarence. In 2019, he returned to voice Bart Allen / Kid Flash in Young Justice: Outsiders.
On-Screen Acting Roles
Besides voice acting, Jason had many on-camera roles. He played Rich Halke in Step by Step from 1995 to 1998. He was also Nelson Burkhard in Full House. On Boy Meets World, he played a character named Jason Marsden, who was Eric Matthews' best friend. He played a young Burt Ward/Robin in the 2002 TV movie Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt.
Directing and Producing
Jason also has experience behind the camera. He directed an episode of the Nickelodeon series The Journey of Allen Strange (1997). He also directed, wrote, produced, and edited a short film called The Greatest Short Film Ever!!! and several music videos.
In 2020, Jason started a web series on YouTube called "The Mars Variety Show." It features indie musicians, comedians, and other performers.
Personal Life
Jason Marsden married Christy Hicks in October 2004. They have one son, who was born on February 10, 2010. Jason lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
