Exploring Neverland: The Story of Peter Pan and the Pirates
This TV show focuses a lot on the pirates, not just Peter Pan. Captain Hook and Smee are usually the only pirates we hear about. But in this show, other crew members of the Jolly Roger ship get their own personalities. These include Robert Mullins, Alf Mason, Gentleman Ignatious Starkey, Billy Jukes, and Cookson. Captain Hook is shown as a strong, smart, and charming pirate. He is always seeking revenge. The show also gives attention to the Native American characters and their traditions.
Meet the Characters: Heroes and Villains
This section introduces the main characters you'll meet in Neverland.
The Heroes: Peter Pan and His Friends
Peter Pan (voiced by Jason Marsden) is the main hero and leader. He has dark brown hair and wears a brown costume. Peter is always ready for a new adventure. He can be a bit reckless and sometimes forgets things easily. He loves his fights with Captain Hook. Even though he's playful, Peter cares deeply for his friends.
Tinker Bell (voiced by Debi Derryberry) is a red-headed fairy and Peter Pan's helper. She is often more practical than Peter. Her fairy dust helps humans fly and can also create fire or light. Tinker Bell is sensitive and her magic depends on people believing in magic. She can get jealous of Wendy but always protects her friends.
Wendy Darling (voiced by Christina Lange) is the oldest of the Darling children. She has black hair and wears a pink dress. Wendy acts like a mother figure to the boys. She is calm and mature, but also loves to play games. She spends the most time with Peter.
John Darling (voiced by Jack Lynch) is the middle Darling sibling. He has blond hair and wears a brown hat. John loves books and often writes in his journal. He fights pirates with a magic wooden sword.
Michael Darling (voiced by Whitby Hertford) is the youngest Darling sibling. He has light brown curly hair and wears blue pajamas. Michael is the smallest and sometimes gets scared. Peter and the others look after him. He loves playing and chasing animals.
The Lost Boys are a group of six boys who live in Neverland. They wear clothes made from animal heads.
- Nibs (voiced by Adam Carl) is one of the tallest and oldest Lost Boys. He wears a bear's head cap. Nibs is Peter's second-in-command and is responsible. He is brave and strong.
- Slightly (voiced by Scott Menville) is the second tallest Lost Boy. He wears a parrot's head cap. He often uses the word "slightly" when he talks. Slightly wants to be Peter's second-in-command but learns he's not ready. He collects shells as a hobby.
- Curly (voiced by Josh Keaton) is a Lost Boy with a tiger's head cap. He has a good sense of humor. Curly tries hard to be seen as useful and independent.
- The Twins (voiced by Aaron Lohr and Michael Bacall) are two non-identical twins. They both wear leopard's head caps. They are known as Tall Twin and Short Twin. They work very well together and often finish each other's sentences. They are the group's mechanics and inventors.
- Tootles (voiced by Chris M. Allport) is the youngest and smallest Lost Boy. He wears a panda's head cap. Tootles loves eating and can sometimes be clumsy. He is brave when fighting pirates and is the most patient of the group.
The Villains: Captain Hook and His Crew
Captain James Algernon Cloudesley Hook (voiced by Tim Curry) is the main bad guy and Peter Pan's enemy. He is the captain of the pirate ship, the "Jolly Roger." He has an iron hook instead of his right hand. Unlike other versions, this Hook has white hair and no mustache. He is smart, cultured, and plays the harpsichord very well. He is not affected by Neverland's usual magic.
Smee (voiced by Ed Gilbert) is Captain Hook's loyal first mate. He is small, slim, and has a beard. Smee is often clumsy but stays loyal to Hook.
The Pirate Crew are the other pirates who live on the Jolly Roger. They are loyal to Captain Hook.
- Robert Mullins (voiced by Jack Angel) is a strong pirate who is good at sword fighting. He sometimes wants to take over as captain. He gets landsickness and is very superstitious.
- "Gentleman" Ignatious P. Starkey (voiced by David Shaughnessy) is a fancy and English pirate. He uses a rapier as a weapon. He can be a bit overconfident.
- Alf Mason (voiced by Tony Jay) is the ship's carpenter and strongman. He is very strong and muscular. He can also be sensitive.
- Billy Jukes (voiced by Eugene Williams) is the youngest pirate. He was rescued by Hook's crew and taught by Robert Mullins. He is the ship's gunner and knows a lot about machines.
- Eucrates Cookson (voiced by Jack Angel) is the ship's chef. He uses kitchen tools as weapons and is good with a fishing net. He mostly stays in the kitchen.
Short Tom is Captain Hook's mischievous parrot. He wears an eye-patch and can speak a few phrases. He often tries to warn the pirates about Peter Pan.
The Croc is a large reptile that ate Captain Hook's hand. She lives in a cave. A ticking clock is heard when she is near. This clock is magical and controls time in Neverland.
Other Interesting Characters in Neverland
The Indians are a tribe living in Neverland. They often help Peter Pan and the Lost Boys.
- Great Big Little Panther (voiced by Michael Wise) is the wise chief and father of Tiger Lily and Hard-To-Hit.
- Tiger Lily (voiced by Cree Summer) is the chief's daughter. She is active and helps Peter on adventures.
- Hard-to-Hit (voiced by Aaron Lohr) is Tiger Lily's younger brother. He knows how to use his tribe's weapons.

- Little Panther is an ancient ancestor of the tribe.

- The Mermaid Trio are three mermaids who love Peter and jewels.
- Crooked Tail (voiced by Linda Gary) is a green-skinned mermaid who is friendly to Peter and other humans.
- The Blonde and Redhead Mermaids are two vain mermaids who sometimes act as villains.

How This Peter Pan is Different from Other Stories
This TV series has some unique differences from J.M. Barrie's original book and other Peter Pan versions:
- The show does not explain how the Darling family lives in London. It also doesn't show how Peter takes Wendy to Neverland.
- We don't learn how the Lost Boys first came to Neverland.
- The series doesn't have a clear ending. We don't know if the Lost Boys ever leave Neverland.
- The episodes are not always shown in order. Events in a later episode might actually happen before an earlier one.
- Peter always keeps his knife on his boot, not his waist.
- Tinker Bell speaks like other characters, not just with bell sounds.
- Captain Hook has white hair, not black or brown.
- Captain Hook does not panic when he hears a clock ticking.
- John wears a brown hat, not a black top hat.
- Wendy has black hair, which is darker than her brothers'. In most stories, she has lighter hair.
- The Twins are not identical. One is short and white, the other is taller and Black. They are recognized as twins because they wear similar caps and do everything together.
- The Lost Boys wear normal clothes with animal head caps.
- In this version, Peter's friends, including the Darling siblings and the Lost Boys, can also fly all the time. In other stories, only Peter is known for flying easily.
