What the Show is About
The show follows the everyday life of Clarence Wendle, a happy and energetic 10-year-old boy. He loves to have fun and always tries to see the good in things. His best friends are Jeff, who is very smart, and Sumo, who is brave and often finds unusual ways to solve problems.
Clarence lives with his mom, Mary, and her boyfriend, Chad, in a made-up town called Aberdale. Each episode shows the funny and sometimes tricky situations Clarence and his friends get into. It's all about their daily adventures and what it's like growing up as kids.
Other characters in the show include students and teachers at Aberdale Elementary, which is Clarence's school. Sometimes, episodes even focus on the lives of other people in Aberdale or Clarence's classmates.
Meet the Characters
Main Characters
- Clarence Wendle (voiced by Spencer Rothbell) – Clarence is a friendly, optimistic, and outgoing 10-year-old. He always tries to make things better for everyone and loves to have fun. He often follows his heart and is full of excitement. Clarence wants to help his friends have a good time, even if his ideas are a bit unusual. Sometimes his imagination gets the best of him, and he might accidentally make things worse when trying to help.
- Jeffrey "Jeff" Randell (voiced by Sean Giambrone) – Jeff is one of Clarence's best friends. He is smart, calm, and usually tries to keep Clarence from getting into too much trouble. Jeff is known for his cube-shaped head, which matches his organized personality. He really enjoys game shows and likes to play along with them.
- Ryan "Sumo" Sumouski (voiced by Tom Kenny) – Sumo is Clarence's other best friend. He is fearless and unpredictable, often using big, bold ideas to solve problems. Even though his methods can be wild, Sumo is very loyal to Jeff and Clarence. He and Jeff sometimes argue because they are so different, but Clarence helps them stay friends. In the third season, Sumo moves to a new school called West Aberdale.
- Mary Wendle (voiced by Katie Crown) – Mary is Clarence's mom. She always supports her son, no matter what. She lives with her boyfriend, Chad, and Clarence.
- Charles "Chad" Caswell III (voiced by Eric Edelstein) – Chad is Mary's boyfriend and acts like a father figure to Clarence. He works many different jobs and loves playing guitar and listening to rock music.
Supporting Characters
- Chelsea Keezheekoni (voiced by Grace Kaufman) – Chelsea is a lively and outspoken girl who believes she is better than any boy, especially Sumo.
- Ms. Melanie Baker (voiced by Katie Crown) – She is the children's 5th-grade teacher at Aberdale Elementary. She is helpful and caring but can get easily overwhelmed.
- Belson Noles (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) – Belson is the school bully, but he usually uses insults and pranks instead of fighting. He is selfish, spoiled, and often shows off. Most kids don't like Belson, but Clarence is one of the few who does. Belson sometimes gets jealous that Clarence is popular and tries to mess things up for him.
- Nathan Springfellow (voiced by Spencer Rothbell) – Nathan is one of Belson's friends. He is a big guy who is sometimes a bit slow to understand things. He also becomes friends with Clarence and joins in on his adventures.
- Dustin Conway (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) – Dustin is another classmate and one of Belson's friends. He is good at karate and later becomes friends with Clarence.
- Percy Dahmer (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) – Percy is a small, shy boy who speaks softly. He is friends with Clarence and Belson and, like Clarence, sometimes lets his imagination run wild.
- Breehn (voiced by Joshua Rush) – Breehn is one of the smart kids in class and is more of Jeff's friend at first. He is usually very sensible. In later episodes, he becomes closer to Clarence and joins in some of their silly adventures, learning to have more fun.
- Kimberly "Kimby" Knutson (voiced by Isabella Niems) – Kimby is another of Clarence's classmates. She is a bit shy and insecure but very sweet. Kimby loves dolls, stuffed animals, makeovers, and boy bands.
- Malessica (voiced by Ivy Bishop) – Malessica is one of Kimby's friends and Jeff has a crush on her. She plays the electric guitar.
- Courtlin (voiced by Tayler Buck) – Courtlin is another of Kimby's friends. She is confident and not afraid to say what she thinks.
- Joshua "Josh" Maverick (voiced by Brent Popolizio) – Josh is a grumpy 26-year-old who doesn't like kids, especially Sumo and later Clarence. He often gets hurt in funny accidents, usually because of Clarence's playful antics.
Show's End
On April 4, 2017, Spencer Rothbell confirmed that the third season of Clarence would be its last. Cartoon Network decided not to make a fourth season, and the show officially ended on June 24, 2018.
