Maximilian Goof, often called Max Goof, is a fun animated character from Disney. He is the son of the famous character Goofy. Max first appeared in a short film in 1951 as "Goofy Junior." Later, he became "Max Goof" in the 1992 TV show Goof Troop. In this show, he was a preteen.

Max grew up as he appeared in more movies and shows. He was a teenager in A Goofy Movie (1995) and a college student in An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000). He also worked as a parking valet in the TV series House of Mouse (2001). You can also see him as a child in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas (1999) and as a young adult in Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas (2004). Max has even been a character you can play in video games like Goof Troop (1993) and Disney Golf (2002).

Max's Beginnings

Goofy's son first appeared in 1951 in a short film called Fathers Are People. He was known as Goofy Junior or just Junior. He showed up in a few other shorts too, like Father's Lion (1952) and Aquamania (1961). In these early films, Goofy also had a wife, but her face was never shown.

When the TV show Goof Troop was made, Goofy Junior changed into Max. Goofy's wife was no longer part of the story. Disney has said there is no clear answer about what happened to Max's mother.

About Max Goof

Max is one of the few Disney characters who actually gets older in his appearances. In Goof Troop, he is 11½ years old. He becomes a high school teenager in A Goofy Movie. Then, in An Extremely Goofy Movie, he is a high school graduate starting college. In House of Mouse, he is a teenager old enough to work. He looks younger in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and is a young adult in Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas.

Max sometimes acts like his dad, Goofy. He might have Goofy's laugh or be a bit clumsy. But Max thinks he is much cooler than Goofy. He can be a show-off when he is good at something. Goofy always tries hard to be a good father to Max. Max loves his dad, even if he wishes Goofy was a little more "normal."

Max's best friend is PJ, who is the son of Goofy's neighbor, Pete. Max also loves skateboarding. You can see him skateboarding in Goof Troop episodes and in A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie.

Max has had a few girlfriends. In A Goofy Movie, he likes a popular girl named Roxanne. They become a couple by the end of the movie. In House of Mouse, Max and Roxanne are still dating. Later, in Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, Max brings a girl named Mona home for Christmas. He tries to impress her without being embarrassed by his dad.

Max's Adventures

In Goof Troop

In the TV series Goof Troop, Max is 11½ years old. He is active, kind, and friendly. He is best friends with P.J. They are in the same grade at junior high school. Max loves his dad and is close to him. But he wishes his dad would act a bit more normal. Max wears baggy jeans, white gloves, colorful sneakers, and a red shirt.

In A Goofy Movie

A Goofy Movie shows Max as a high school teenager. He thinks his dad's silly actions are embarrassing. Max wants to impress a girl named Roxanne. He tries to do this by dressing up like a rock star, Powerline, at a school assembly. He dances and performs to Powerline's song. This impresses the students and Roxanne. She agrees to go to a party with him.

But Max gets in trouble, and Goofy decides to take him on a fishing trip. Max is not happy about this. He tells Roxanne he is going to see Powerline in concert in Los Angeles. He even lies that Goofy and Powerline are old friends. Max feels bad about this lie during the trip. Goofy tries to bond with Max, but Max secretly changes their map to go to Los Angeles.

When Goofy finds out, they argue. Max finally tells his dad how he feels about Roxanne and the lie. They both realize they are stuck together and wouldn't want it any other way. They even accidentally end up on stage at the Powerline concert! Back home, Max tells Roxanne the truth. Roxanne says she already liked him, even his goofy laugh.

In An Extremely Goofy Movie

In the movie An Extremely Goofy Movie, Max has finished high school. He goes to college with his best friends, P.J. and Bobby. Max wants to join the College X-Games competition. He makes a bet with Bradley Uppercrust III, the leader of the Gamma Mu Mu fraternity.

Meanwhile, Goofy loses his job and has to go back to college. He ends up at the same college as Max! Max is upset because he wanted to be away from his dad. Max tries to distract Goofy by introducing him to Ms. Sylvia Marpole, the college librarian. She likes Goofy, and they start dating.

Goofy accidentally joins the Gammas and even beats Max in an X-Games qualifying round. Max gets angry at his dad. He tells Goofy to "get his own life." Goofy becomes sad. Later, Goofy finds out the Gammas plan to cheat in the games. He tries to warn Max, but Max doesn't believe him.

During the X-Games final, Max sees the Gammas cheating. He realizes Goofy was right. Max feels bad for being mean to his dad. He asks Goofy to join his team. Goofy happily agrees. Max and Goofy work together. Max even saves a Gamma member, Tank, from a fire. Max barely wins the X-Games. At Goofy's graduation, Max gives him the X-Games trophy. They make up, and Goofy lets Max live his own life at college.

In Disney's House of Mouse

In the TV series House of Mouse, Max is still a teenager. He works as the parking valet at the club. He is usually calm and sensible. In one episode, "Max's Embarrassing Date," Max is on a date with Roxanne at the club. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy try to keep Goofy away so he doesn't embarrass Max. But they end up embarrassing him themselves! Goofy finally steps in to give Max and Roxanne some privacy.

In Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas

In Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, Max is a little boy. He goes with Goofy to mail his letter to Santa. Their neighbor Pete tells Max there is no Santa. Goofy tries to prove Santa is real. After a long night, Santa finally arrives, making both Goofy and Max happy.

In Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, Max is a young adult. He brings his girlfriend, Mona, home for Christmas to meet his dad. Goofy embarrasses Max with baby pictures and lots of fatherly love. But Mona finds Goofy's quirks charming. Max decides to stop being embarrassed and join the fun. Max also appears briefly with his dad and other characters looking for Pluto.

In DuckTales

In the 2017 DuckTales series, Goofy mentions "Maxie" by name. He shows pictures of Max in his wallet. One picture shows Max and P.J., and another shows Max and Roxanne.
