Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey! is an animated comedy film from 2009. It's based on the popular children's stories about Curious George by H.A. Rey and Margret Rey. This movie is a sequel to the first Curious George film from 2006. It was first released directly to DVD in the United States. In some countries like Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland, it was shown in movie theaters.

In this film, Frank Welker continues to voice George. However, some other characters have new voices. For example, Jeff Bennett voices Ted, also known as The Man with the Yellow Hat, taking over from Will Ferrell. Nickie Bryar voices Maggie, replacing Drew Barrymore. And Fred Tatasciore voices Mr. Bloomsberry, replacing Dick Van Dyke. Tim Curry, Jamie Kennedy, Matt Lauer, and Jerry Lewis voice new characters in the movie. Ron Howard, who produced the first film, returned as an executive producer for this one.

Story of the Movie

George Meets Kayla the Elephant

The film begins with George swinging through the town. He picks up a newspaper and reads about a great magician named Piccadilly. Piccadilly is performing with an elephant named Kayla. George finds this very exciting! He wakes up Ted, his friend, to show him the news. But Ted is in a hurry for an important meeting.

Ted's Big Decision

Ted arrives at the museum, where he works. His boss, Mr. Bloomsberry, is retiring. Mr. Bloomsberry wants Ted to take over running the museum. Ted is the only choice because he is so trusted. However, Ted must prepare a presentation for the museum's Board of Directors. He has one week to show his ideas for the museum's future. Ted is very nervous about speaking to the Board.

A Trip to the Magic Show

Maggie, Ted's girlfriend, tells him that his loved ones need his attention too. George then tries to show Ted the poster for Piccadilly's magic show. Ted realizes Maggie is right. He decides to take George to the magic show. During the show, Piccadilly performs a trick where Kayla the elephant disappears. George goes to look for her.

Kayla's Escape and a New Adventure

George finds Kayla in the theater's basement. They start playing and accidentally find an exit. Meanwhile, Piccadilly can't find Kayla and calls security. Danno Wolfe, the head of security, becomes suspicious of Ted and George. George and Kayla make their way to Ted's apartment. There, they see news about Kayla's family in California. She has a brother, Tonga, and a sister, Layla.

On the Run with Kayla

Ted returns home and finds George and Kayla in his apartment. He decides to take them back to the theater. But on the way, George sees an advertisement for the "California Express" train. George and Kayla get on the train, and Ted follows them. He can't get them off before the train leaves the station. They are now heading west! Ted gets worried when the train doesn't stop, and his phone battery dies.

Danno, the security chief, gets a confusing message. He thinks George and Ted have kidnapped Kayla. He starts looking for them. Back on the train, George opens the boxcar door. Ted falls out while trying to catch his presentation papers. Ted finds a small train station. The stationmaster offers to charge his broken phone. Ted tries to call Piccadilly, but the call doesn't go through. This makes Danno even more sure that Ted and George are kidnappers.

A Detour and New Friends

Ted uses the stationmaster's motorcycle to catch up with George and Kayla. He gets back on the train. He leaves his phone with the stationmaster, who tries to call Piccadilly. But the phone breaks completely. Ted, George, and Kayla continue on the train. Danno is still chasing them. Kayla's movements cause their boxcar to separate from the rest of the train. They stop and get off, looking for help.

A man in a truck picks them up. Ted thinks they are going east, but they are still heading west. Piccadilly is interviewed on TV, and pictures of George and Ted are shown as kidnappers. Ted wakes up and realizes they are going the wrong way. They get off the truck and try to head back east.

They meet a farmer named Dan and his daughter Anna. They spend the night at their farm. The next morning, Ted reads the newspaper. It says New York thinks they are kidnappers. He also reads about Kayla's family. Ted decides it's best to return Kayla to Piccadilly. But George disagrees and walks off with Kayla. Ted changes his mind the next morning. Before they can leave for Kayla's home, Danno shows up in a helicopter.

A Happy Reunion

After some funny events, George and his friends escape in an old school bus. They finally make it to the park where Kayla's brother Tonga and sister Layla are. Kayla is so happy to see them! But Danno shows up again. He arrests George and Ted and captures Kayla. They fly back to the city. George cleverly gets the handcuff keys from Danno. They all escape by jumping out of the plane.

They make it back to Piccadilly. Everything seems fine until Danno appears again. Kayla helps to stop him. She throws him onto a trapdoor on the stage. Piccadilly opens the trapdoor, and Danno falls onto a mattress below.

Ted's Big Speech

George and Maggie watch Ted give his report to the Board of Directors. Ted is nervous because his adventures kept him from preparing. When George comes into the room, Ted gives a speech from his heart. He says that friends are more important than work. He suggests new ideas for the museum based on this, like a Father/Son Day. The Board is very impressed and approves his new job.

Later, George, Ted, and Maggie are having a picnic in the park. Piccadilly and Tina arrive. They share the good news that Tonga and Layla have joined Piccadilly's act. Kayla and her family are finally together again!
