What is Penn Zero About?
The series follows Penn Zero, a teenager who takes on his parents' secret job. His parents are full-time heroes. Penn must travel into different dimensions to become the hero of that world. He saves the day in their place.
Penn gets help from his best friends, Boone and Sashi. Boone is the part-time wise man, and Sashi is the part-time sidekick. Together, they fight against Rippen, who is Penn's art teacher and a part-time villain. Rippen's minion is Larry, who is also Penn's school principal.
In the second season, Penn tries to find two special shards. These shards will help him locate the "Most Dangerous World Imaginable." This is where his parents are trapped, and Penn wants to save them.

List of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero episodes
Main Characters
Penn Zero and His Team
- Penn Zero (voiced by Thomas Middleditch) - Penn is the main character and a part-time hero. His parents are full-time heroes, but Rippen trapped them in a dangerous dimension. Penn lives with his Aunt Rose and Uncle Chuck. He goes on missions with his best friends, Sashi and Boone. Penn is the leader, but he often asks his parents for advice. He talks to them using a special device called a MUHU.
- Boone Wiseman (voiced by Adam DeVine) - Boone is Penn's best friend and the part-time wise man. He often surprises his friends with his unusual ideas. Even though he's not always the smartest, Boone's unique style helps them finish missions. Boone used to be very afraid of water, but he overcame this fear in one episode. His parents were also part-time heroes.
- Sashi Kobayashi (voiced by Tania Gunadi) - Sashi is Penn's second best friend and the part-time sidekick. She is the only girl on Penn's team. Sashi is tough and can be aggressive. She wears special futuristic glasses called "the Specs." These glasses show holographic displays that give the team mission information. Sashi's parents were not part-time heroes. They thought she worked at a "Fish Stick on a Stick" restaurant. This restaurant is actually the villains' secret headquarters!
- Phyllis (voiced by Sam Levine) - Phyllis is a grumpy woman who manages the Multi Universe Transprojector (MUT). This machine helps Penn and his team travel to other worlds. The MUT is in an old movie theater called The Odyssey. It's right next to the villains' base. Phyllis chose Penn's parents and later Penn to be part-time heroes. She has a pet bear named Karen for security.
Phyllis's Pet
- Karen - Karen is Phyllis's guard bear. In the final episode, Phyllis gave Karen to Boone.
Villains
- Rippen (voiced by Alfred Molina) - Rippen is the main bad guy and a part-time villain. He thinks he's a genius but often deals with his minion Larry's silliness. Rippen hates Penn and his friends. He knows who they really are but is always stopped by them. When he's not being a villain, Rippen is Penn's art teacher at school. He wants to become a full-time villain. To do this, he needs to succeed in an evil plan without Penn's team stopping him. Rippen tricked Penn's parents into the Most Dangerous World Imaginable.
- Larry (voiced by Larry Wilmore) - Larry is Rippen's part-time minion. He wears glasses and is usually more friendly than evil. He often annoys Rippen more than he fights Penn's team. When he's not a minion, Larry is the principal of Penn's high school. He seems very lucky and has won the lottery many times. Larry is very loyal to Rippen, even though he can be clumsy. His futuristic glasses also show mission info, like Sashi's.
- Phil (voiced by Sam Levine) - Phil is Rippen and Larry's assistant. He operates their portal at the Fish Stick on a Stick restaurant. Like Phyllis, he often seems to be in a bad mood.
The Heroes' Families
- Vonnie Zero (voiced by Lea Thompson) - Vonnie is Penn's mother and a part-time sidekick. Rippen trapped her and Penn's father, Brock, in the "Most Dangerous World Imaginable." She loves Penn very much. She is also a strong fighter, much like Sashi.
- Brock Zero (voiced by Gary Cole) - Brock is Penn's father and a part-time hero. He is trapped with Vonnie. Brock is a brave fighter and a loving dad. He sometimes brings up embarrassing stories during holographic chats with Penn.
- Aunt Rose (voiced by Rosie Perez) - Aunt Rose is Penn's aunt. Penn lives with her while his parents are away. She seems very different from Penn's hero family.
- Uncle Chuck (voiced by Lenny Venito) - Uncle Chuck is Penn's uncle. He and Aunt Rose are not involved in the hero business. They enjoy dressing their pet chinchilla, named The Chinchilla, in sweaters. The Chinchilla does not seem to enjoy this.
- Sylvester and Tia Kobayashi (voiced by George Takei and Lauren Tom) - These are Sashi's parents. Unlike Penn and Boone's parents, they were never part-time heroes. They found out Sashi was a part-time sidekick in the second season.
