Clancy Brown (born January 5, 1959) is an American actor. He has been acting in movies and TV shows since the 1980s. You might know him for playing bad guys or powerful leaders.

Some of his famous movie roles include the Kurgan in Highlander (1986) and Captain Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption (1994). He also played Sgt. Charles Zim in Starship Troopers (1997). More recently, he was Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the Harbinger in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

On TV, he played Brother Justin Crowe in Carnivàle (2003–2005) and Kurt Caldwell in Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022).

Clancy Brown is also a well-known voice actor. He voices Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob SquarePants (since 1999) and Lex Luthor in many DC Animated Universe shows. He also voiced Long Feng in Avatar: The Last Airbender (2006) and Savage Opress in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2011–2013). In video games, he voiced Doctor Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot games and Hank Anderson in Detroit: Become Human (2018).

Clancy Brown was born in Urbana, Ohio, on January 5, 1959. His mother, Joyce Helen, was a conductor and a pianist. His father, Clarence J. "Bud" Brown Jr., managed a family newspaper business. Clancy's grandfather, Clarence J. Brown, was a Congressman. His father, Bud Brown, also served as a Congressman from 1965 to 1983, holding the same seat as his own father.

Clancy Brown went to St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., and then to Northwestern University. He has been married to Jeanne Johnson since 1993. They have a son and a daughter.

Clancy Brown's first big movie role was in the 1983 film Bad Boys, where he played Viking Lofgren. He became famous for playing the villainous Kurgan in the 1986 movie Highlander. Another important role was Captain Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. He also played Frankenstein's monster in The Bride (1985).

He has often played prison officers, like the tough Captain Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. In 2007, he played a Viking leader in Pathfinder.

In 2009, he appeared in The Informant! with Matt Damon. He also played Alan Smith in the 2010 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. In 2011, he was in Cowboys & Aliens with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.

On TV, Clancy Brown was a regular on the science fiction show Earth 2 from 1994 to 1995. He was also praised for his role as the preacher Brother Justin Crowe in the HBO series Carnivàle.
