Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is an exciting video game that is the second part of the popular Crash Bandicoot series. It was made by Naughty Dog and released by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation in 1997. This game was so popular that it was re-released many times, even becoming available on the PlayStation Network years later.
The game's story takes place on a group of make-believe islands near Australia. You play as the brave bandicoot Crash. In this adventure, the main bad guy, Doctor Neo Cortex, tricks Crash. Cortex says he wants to "save the world" and needs Crash to collect special Crystals for him. Crash has to go through many levels on N. Sanity Island to find these Crystals. But Crash's clever sister, Coco, thinks Cortex is still planning something sneaky. She also gets help from Doctor Nitrus Brio, who wants Crash to collect shiny Gems instead of Crystals. So, Crash is caught between two different missions!
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back got many good reviews from people who played it. Many thought it was even better than the first Crash Bandicoot game. Players especially liked the cool graphics, easy controls, and catchy music. Some people felt the game had a bit too much "try and fail" gameplay, not enough different levels, and bosses that were too easy. Still, the game became one of the best-selling PlayStation video games ever. In Japan, it sold over 800,000 copies, doing even better than the first game there.

Game Story
In Crash Bandicoot 2, the adventure begins when Crash is sleeping. Suddenly, he is taken away by Doctor Neo Cortex. Cortex tells Crash that a giant planet is coming to destroy Earth. He says he has changed his ways and wants to save the world. To do this, he needs Crash to find 25 special Crystals. These Crystals will help Cortex power his new machine.
Crash's Mission
Crash travels through different "Warp Rooms" to reach various levels. Each Warp Room has five levels and a boss fight. After beating a boss, Crash gets a new power, like a super body slam or a fast slide. He needs to collect all the Crystals to help Cortex.
Coco's Suspicions
While Crash is busy collecting Crystals, his sister Coco is working on her computer. She believes Cortex is still evil and is using Crash for a bad plan. Coco tries to warn Crash and even helps him in some levels. She thinks Cortex's machine will actually brainwash everyone on Earth.
Doctor Brio's Plan
Another scientist, Doctor Nitrus Brio, also contacts Crash. Brio tells Crash not to trust Cortex. He wants Crash to collect 42 shiny Gems instead of Crystals. Brio explains that if Crash collects all the Gems, they can destroy Cortex's space station. This puts Crash in a tough spot: should he trust Cortex or Brio?
