Mr. Freeze is a famous bad guy who often fights Batman. He was created by Dave Wood, Sheldon Moldoff, and Bob Kane. He first showed up in a comic book called Batman #121 in February 1959.
Mr. Freeze's real name is Dr. Victor Fries. He was a smart scientist who studied cryogenics, which is about freezing things. An accident in his lab changed him. He was trying to find a cure for his very sick wife, Nora.
Because of the accident, Victor's body temperature dropped to below freezing. He now has to wear a special suit to stay alive. To find a cure for Nora, he turns to crime. This often makes him clash with Batman.
Many actors have played Mr. Freeze in movies and TV shows. These include George Sanders, Otto Preminger, and Eli Wallach in the 1960s Batman TV series. Arnold Schwarzenegger played him in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin. Nathan Darrow played him in the TV show Gotham. His voice has been done by Michael Ansara and others in cartoons and video games.
Powers and Equipment
Mr. Freeze plans his crimes around a cold theme, like ice and snow. An accident changed his body. Now, his body temperature must always be below zero. This makes him like a cold-blooded mutant.
His skin cells can store cold. This helps his body stay chilled and comfortable. He is completely immune to very cold temperatures. His aging has also slowed down a lot. Some people think the chemical he was soaked in was glycerol. This chemical is used to protect things when they are frozen. His unique body also makes him immune to most toxins, bacteria, and viruses.
Freeze is a very smart scientist. He is good at physics, engineering, genetics, computer science, chemistry, and medical science. His inventions are very advanced. He has been obsessed with cryogenics since he was a child. This makes him one of the best cryogenic scientists in Gotham.
Victor even built a life support machine for Catwoman once. He also invents many kinds of cold weapons and armor. He is a great medical scientist. He studies Nora's brain illness. He has shown that freezing can delay sickness. Keeping his wife frozen is the best example of his research.
His special suit makes him super strong and tough. It protected him from a bomb attack once. He also has a more advanced suit that is lighter. This new suit can stop gunshots and explosions.
Mr. Freeze's most famous weapon is his freeze gun. This gun shoots out blasts of cold that are almost as cold as possible. The gun can also create a "cold field." It can trap enemies inside a cocoon of ice.
In one story, a demon named Neron gave Mr. Freeze a new power. He could make super cold temperatures without his gun or suit. But later, he lost this power. He went back to needing his special suit and weapons.
