Yvette Nicole Brown (born August 12, 1971) is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in many TV shows and movies. She played Shirley Bennett in the NBC comedy series Community. She also starred as Dani in The Odd Couple and Dina Rose in The Mayor.

Yvette Nicole Brown also had a regular role as Helen Dubois in Drake & Josh. She has appeared in popular shows like That '70s Show, The Office, and Mom. In 2021, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her work in A Black Lady Sketch Show.

Besides acting on TV, she has been in movies such as (500) Days of Summer, Tropic Thunder, and Avengers: Endgame. She also uses her voice for cartoon characters. She voiced Cookie on Pound Puppies, Luna on Elena of Avalor, and Principal Amanda Waller on DC Super Hero Girls. Yvette has also hosted TV shows like Cosplay Melee and has been a guest on talk shows like The View.

Early Life and Education

Yvette Nicole Brown was born on August 12, 1971, in East Cleveland, Ohio. She finished high school at Warrensville Heights High School in 1989. She then went to the University of Akron. In 1994, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication. While in college, she joined a leadership honors society called Omicron Delta Kappa. She also became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

After college, Yvette moved to Hollywood, Los Angeles. There, she took acting classes to start her career.

Her Acting Journey

Yvette Nicole Brown began her career by appearing in commercials. Soon after, she started getting roles in TV shows and movies. She appeared in shows like Malcolm in the Middle and That's So Raven. She became well-known for her recurring role as Helen Dubois, a theater manager, in the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh. She even played Helen again in an episode of Victorious.

In 2009, Yvette started her role as Shirley Bennett in the comedy series Community. This show became very popular. In 2014, she decided to leave the show after five seasons. She explained that she needed to take care of her father, who needed daily help. She said it was a hard choice, but her family came first.

Yvette has also been in many TV commercials for brands like Hamburger Helper and Dairy Queen. She has been a guest on game shows like The Pyramid and Match Game. She also hosted the Syfy series Cosplay Melee, which is about people who dress up as characters.

In 2018, she temporarily hosted Talking Dead and moderated panels at San Diego Comic-Con. She also wrote a romantic comedy movie called Always a Bridesmaid in 2019. In 2020, she was a guest panelist on The Masked Singer, and later competed on the show in 2024.

In 2009, Yvette Nicole Brown was honored by her old high school, Warrensville Heights High School, and was inducted into their hall of fame. She also served on the board for SAG-AFTRA, a union for actors.

In December 2023, Yvette announced that she was engaged to actor Anthony Davis. They got married on December 14, 2024, in Los Angeles, California.

Supporting Good Causes

Yvette Nicole Brown has also been involved in politics. She supported Elizabeth Warren during the 2020 presidential primary elections. She also worked with her Community castmates to make a video supporting Joe Biden in the 2020 general election. In 2022, she helped VoteRiders, an organization that teaches people about voter ID rules, so everyone eligible can vote.
