What's the Show About?

The series follows the funny adventures of Tom the cat as he tries to catch Jerry the mouse. Each episode has two or three short stories. These stories can happen in different settings:

  1. Tom and Jerry's usual chase scenes in a modern city.
  2. Tom and Jerry living with two witches named Beatie and Hildie. (This storyline stopped after season two.)
  3. Tom and Jerry working together as detectives in a place called Tolucaville. They run a detective agency called "The Cat and Mouse Detectives." A narrator tells their stories. In these episodes, other famous MGM Cartoons characters like Droopy often appear.
  4. Jerry living in a science lab with another rat friend named Napoleon, while Tom is an alley cat. (This was only used in season one.)
  5. Tom working as a butler in a big fancy house, like in Downton Abbey. (This started in season three.)
  6. Tom and Jerry living in a spooky Transylvanian place, like a parody of Van Helsing stories. (This also started in season three.)
  7. Tom working on a farm run by a farmer named Maude. (This started in season four.)

How the Show Was Made

The Tom and Jerry Show was first planned to have 26 episodes, each split into two 11-minute parts. The goal was to keep the show feeling like the old classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. It was originally supposed to start in 2013 but was moved to April 9, 2014.

From the second season onwards, the cartoon's art style was updated a bit. Also, each story segment became shorter, lasting 7 minutes instead of 11. This change made the half-hour episodes have three segments instead of two, making them even more like the original short cartoons.

The show was made by Warner Bros. Animation and Renegade Animation. Renegade Animation is also known for making other cartoons like Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi and The Mr. Men Show. This Tom and Jerry series was the first to be animated using Adobe Flash and was designed for widescreen TVs. It became the longest-running Tom and Jerry TV series, lasting longer than Tom & Jerry Kids.
