Bambi II is an animated movie from 2006. It's a "midquel" to the famous 1942 film Bambi. This means its story takes place in the middle of the first Bambi movie. It shows what happened when Bambi was a young deer.

The movie focuses on Bambi's father, the Great Prince of the Forest. He has to learn how to raise Bambi after Bambi's mother is gone. Bambi also wonders if his father truly loves him. While it was shown in cinemas in many countries, in the United States it was released directly on DVD.

What is the Story of Bambi II?

The story of Bambi II begins right after Bambi's mother dies. Bambi follows his father, the Great Prince, into the forest. Bambi wants to make his father proud. His friends, Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, help him.

But the Great Prince also learns new things from his energetic son. It's a story about a father and son learning to understand each other.

How Was Bambi II Made?

The people who made Bambi II used some special tricks. Many of the backgrounds in the movie are the same ones from the original 1942 Bambi film. These old backgrounds were put into computers. This made them look clearer and new for the movie.

Many talented actors lent their voices to the characters in Bambi II:

  • Patrick Stewart as The Great Prince
  • Alexander Gould as Bambi
  • Brendon Baerg as Thumper
  • Carolyn Hennesy as Bambi's Mother
  • Nicky Jones as Flower
  • Anthony Ghannam as Ronno
  • Andrea Bowen as Faline

  • Other voices were provided by Mary Day, Harrison Fahn, Jordan Orr, Alexis Restrum, Grace Rolek, Jennessa Rose, George Shenusay, Kath Soucie, and Frank Welker.

When Was Bambi II Released?

Bambi II was released at different times around the world. In some countries, like the United States and Japan, it came out directly on home video. In other places, like the United Kingdom and Australia, it was shown in movie theaters first.

This movie set a world record! It was released 63 and a half years after the first Bambi movie. This is the longest time between two related movies in a series. Bambi II was also the last Disney animated movie ever released on VHS tapes. Disney sold 2.6 million DVDs in the United States in its first week.

How Does Bambi II Connect to the First Movie?

Bambi II has many moments that remind viewers of the first Bambi movie. These are sometimes called "double-takes."

  • When Bambi walks through deep snow with his father, it looks like his first time seeing snow in the original movie.
  • The scene where Bambi and Thumper wake up Flower for Groundhog Day is very similar. It's like when they woke him up in the first movie. Even the background painting of Flower's den is the same!
  • In Bambi, Friend Owl was annoyed by birds singing "Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song." In Bambi II, he groans, "Oh, not that song," when animals start singing it.
  • When Ronno meets Bambi and Faline, he asks, "Where's everybody going? Forest on fire?" This line is similar to the end of the first movie when Bambi escapes a forest fire.
  • Ronno gets buried in snow from a branch, just like Bambi did in the first movie. But Ronno caused it himself!
  • Thumper tries to teach Bambi to growl by moving his legs. This is like when he taught Bambi to ice-skate in the first movie.
  • After Bambi's accident with a porcupine, Ronno tries to push Faline with his antlers. This is similar to a scene in Bambi where he tried to interrupt Bambi and Faline.
  • Bambi jumps over a small gap while running from Ronno. This looks like his jump over a bigger gap in the first movie.
  • When Mena is in danger, she shouts to Bambi, "Faster, Bambi! Don't look back! Keep running! Keep running!" These are the same words Bambi's mother said before she was shot.
  • Later, Bambi struggles up a cliff to escape dogs. This reminds us of Faline trying to escape dogs from a cliff in the original movie.
  • A scene where the Great Prince tells Bambi to get up is like when Bambi was shot in the first movie. The Great Prince says the same words as a forest fire gets closer.
  • Towards the end, Bambi's new antlers get caught on a branch. This is like the "twitterpated" scene in the original movie.
  • After Bambi and Faline kiss, Friend Owl says, "Oh, twitterpated!" Flower asks what it means, and Friend Owl says, "I'll tell you when you're older." In the first movie, he did explain it when they were older!
  • The fight between Bambi and Ronno in this movie mirrors their fight over Faline in the original.
