Carolyn Hennesy (born June 10, 1962) is an American actress, writer, and a big supporter of animals. She has been in many TV shows and movies.

Carolyn first appeared in shows like Dark Justice and Deadly Invasion: The Killer Bee Nightmare. She became more well-known when she got a role in Dawson's Creek. Later, she gained international fame for playing Diane Miller in the TV show General Hospital. For this role, she was nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards. She also had important roles in shows such as Cougar Town, Revenge, and Jessie. She won her first Daytime Emmy Award for her role in the online show The Bay.

Besides acting, Carolyn Hennesy is also a writer. Her 2011 novel, The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli, which features characters from General Hospital, became a New York Times best-seller. She is also known for her work helping animals, especially by supporting good zoos and aquariums, and marine parks like SeaWorld.

Early life and education

Carolyn Hennesy was born on June 10, 1962, in Encino, California. Her father, Dale Hennesy, was a production designer and art director who won an Academy Award for his work on the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage. Carolyn studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater.

Career

Carolyn Hennesy played Mrs. Valentine in the teen drama Dawson's Creek from 2000 to 2001. She also had supporting roles in movies like Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (2003), and Click (2006). She appeared in That '70s Show and Reba. She also guest-starred on Drake & Josh as Mrs. Abernathy. In 2016, she joined the cast of the Netflix show Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Since 2006, Carolyn has played Diane Miller on the daytime soap opera General Hospital. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for this role in 2010 and again in 2021. She wrote the novel The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli in 2011, which became a best-seller. From 2011 to 2015, she played Mrs. Chesterfield in the Disney Channel show Jessie. She also appeared as Myrna in an episode of Once Upon a Time.

Hennesy has written a series of children's books about a character named Pandora. The first book, Pandora Gets Jealous, came out in 2008. She continued the series with Pandora Gets Vain (2008), Pandora Gets Lazy (2009), Pandora Gets Heart (2010), Pandora Gets Angry (2011), Pandora Gets Greedy (2012), and Pandora Gets Frightened (2013).

In 2016, Carolyn appeared in the online soap opera The Bay as Karen Blackwell. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting or Guest Actress in a Digital Daytime Drama Series for this role. Also in 2016, she became an ambassador for the American Humane Association. She spoke to a group of lawmakers about helping animals. Carolyn also hosts a radio show called Animal Magnetism, where she talks with animal experts about animal welfare and how humans and animals can live together.

Personal life

Carolyn Hennesy is the niece of actress Barbara Rush. Her cousin is Fox News reporter Claudia Cowan. Carolyn lives in Los Angeles. She was married to Donald Agnelli from 2007 to 2013. She is also a trapeze artist, and she showed this skill in an episode of Jessie in 2015. She has two brothers, and one of them, Scott Hennesy, works at Disney as an imagineer, helping to design theme park attractions.
