Ariel Winter Workman (born January 28, 1998) is an American actress. She became very famous in the 2010s for playing Alex Dunphy in the TV show Modern Family (2009–2020). Alex Dunphy was a smart and studious character. For this role, Ariel and her co-stars won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series four times in a row from 2010 to 2013.
Ariel Winter first appeared in a movie called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) when she was seven. She also acted in films like Speed Racer (2008) and The Chaperone (2011). She has also lent her voice to many animated movies. These include Horton Hears a Who! (2008), ParaNorman (2012), and Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014). Her family background includes Greek heritage from her mother's side and German heritage from her father's side. She has two older siblings who are also actors, Shanelle Workman and Jimmy Workman.
Acting Career Highlights
Ariel Winter started her acting journey very young. Her first job in entertainment was in a commercial for Cool Whip in 2002. She was only four years old at the time. After that, she appeared in various TV shows. Some of these shows include Listen Up, Freddie, Monk, Bones, and ER.
Voice Acting Roles
Winter became well-known for her voice work. She voiced Gretchen in the animated Disney Channel series Phineas and Ferb. Later, she got the main role of Alex Dunphy in the ABC series Modern Family. This show started in 2009 and finished in 2020. She also voiced Marina on Disney Junior's Jake and the Never Land Pirates.
In 2012, Ariel Winter was chosen to be the voice of Sofia. Sofia is the main character in the Disney animated series Sofia the First. This popular series began in January 2013 on Disney Junior. In 2018, she decided to take a break from UCLA to focus on her acting work.
Ariel Winter is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She dated Canadian actor Levi Meaden for three years, and they separated in 2019. Since 2020, she has been in a relationship with actor Luke Benward. In 2022, Winter moved from Southern California to Nashville, Tennessee.
As of 2025, she volunteers at SOSA. She helps in operations to protect children from harm. She is a strong supporter of preventing childhood abuse. Her own experiences growing up in the entertainment industry have made her passionate about this cause.
