Ariel Winter Workman (born January 28, 1998) is an American actress. She is famous for playing Alex Dunphy in the TV show Modern Family. This show was on ABC from 2009 to 2020. For her role, she and her co-stars won a special award called the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series four times in a row, from 2010 to 2013.

Early Life
Ariel Winter was born on January 28, 1998. Her parents are Chrisoula and Glenn Workman. Her family background includes Greek (from her mother) and German (from her father) roots. She has two older siblings, Shanelle Workman and Jimmy Workman, who are also actors.
Career Highlights
Ariel started acting very young. Her first job in entertainment was in a Cool Whip commercial in 2002 when she was just four years old. After that, she appeared in many TV shows like Listen Up, Freddie, Monk, Bones, and ER.
She also used her voice for animated characters. She was the voice of Gretchen in the Disney Channel series Phineas and Ferb. Then, she got the main role of Alex Dunphy in Modern Family. This show started in 2009 and finished in 2020. Ariel also voiced Marina on Disney Junior's Jake and the Never Land Pirates. In 2012, she became the voice of Sofia, the main character in the Disney animated show Sofia the First. This show began in January 2013 on Disney Junior.
In 2014, she voiced Penny Peterson in the DreamWorks Animation movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman. She also lent her voice to characters in other animated films like Disney's Bambi II and Blue Sky's Ice Age: The Meltdown.
Ariel has also acted in live-action movies. Some of her notable films include Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Speed Racer, and The Chaperone. For her role in The Chaperone, she was nominated for "Best Actress in a Motion Picture" at the Young Artist Awards in 2012.
Personal Life
In 2012, Ariel's older sister, Shanelle Workman, became her guardian. This happened because of difficulties in their family. In 2014, a court decided that Shanelle would permanently be Ariel's guardian. Her mother later said that the family had moved past the disagreements. In 2015, when Ariel was 17, she announced on Twitter that she was officially emancipated. This means she was legally independent from her parents.
Ariel is skilled in taekwondo and holds a purple belt.
In 2016, Ariel shared that she had surgery to help with back pain. She explained that growing up in the public eye and dealing with this pain was very difficult. She told Glamour magazine that after the surgery, it felt "amazing to finally feel right." At the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Ariel wore a dress that showed her surgical scars. She later tweeted that she was not ashamed of her scars because "They are part of me."
Ariel graduated from Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles in June 2016. She was accepted to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and planned to study law. She started at UCLA in 2017 but later took a break to focus on her acting career.
Ariel is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
She dated actor Levi Meaden for three years, and they broke up in 2019. Since 2020, she has been in a relationship with actor Luke Benward. In 2022, Ariel moved from Southern California to Nashville, Tennessee.
