O Pino is a small area, or municipality, located in northwestern Spain. It is part of the province of A Coruña, which is a larger region in the autonomous community of Galicia. Think of a municipality like a town or a small county.
The main town in O Pino is called O Pedrouzo. It's about 18 kilometers (around 11 miles) away from the famous city of Santiago de Compostela. You might even land in O Pino when you fly, as some parts of Santiago de Compostela Airport are within its borders!
Where is O Pino?
O Pino is surrounded by several other municipalities. To the north, it borders Frades and Oroso. To the south, you'll find Touro and Boqueixón. To the east is Arzúa, and to the west is Santiago de Compostela.
O Pino is also part of a bigger area called a comarca, specifically the Comarca of Arzúa. This comarca includes O Pino, Arzúa, Boimorto, and Touro. It's like a district that groups several municipalities together.
What are Parishes?
Inside O Pino, there are smaller divisions called parroquias, or parishes. These are like small villages or local communities within the municipality.
The parishes of O Pino are:
- Arca

- Cebreiro
- Cerceda
- Ferreiros
- Gonzar
- Lardeiros

The Way of St. James
O Pino is an important stop for many travelers! It is on the famous French Way of the Way of St. James (also known as the Camino de Santiago). This is a very old pilgrimage route that people walk or cycle.
As pilgrims travel from Arzúa towards Santiago de Compostela, they pass through several parishes in O Pino. These include Ferreiros, Cerceda, Arca, Pereira, and Castrofeito. It's a beautiful part of the journey for those on the Camino!
