Oakland is a small, unincorporated community located in Mason County, within the U.S. state of Washington. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
A Look Back at Oakland's History
The area known as Oakland got its start with a post office. This post office opened its doors way back in 1858. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1889.
The name "Oakland" was chosen for a simple reason. The first people who settled there found a beautiful group of oak trees. These trees were right near where the original community was built. So, they decided to name the place after them!
