Oakville is a small, quiet community located in the state of Indiana, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Monroe Township in Delaware County.

Where is Oakville?

Oakville is found in the southern part of Delaware County, right near its border. It's a peaceful spot in the countryside of Indiana.

A Look Back in Time: Oakville's History

Oakville has an interesting past! It was first settled in 1873 and was originally called Pleasant Hill. Imagine living in a place named "Pleasant Hill"—it sounds like a nice, calm spot!

Just a few years later, in 1876, the community got its own post office. This was a big deal because it meant people could send and receive mail right in their own community.

The Great Tornado of 1884

On April 1, 1884, something very powerful happened in Oakville. A huge tornado struck the community. This wasn't just any tornado; it was an F5 tornado. An F5 tornado is the strongest type of tornado, with incredibly fast winds that can cause massive damage.

The tornado destroyed most of the buildings in Oakville. It was a very sad day for the community, and tragically, eight people died. Despite this terrible event, the people of Oakville worked hard to rebuild their community.
