Obarenes Mountains facts for kids
The Obarenes Mountains (called Montes Obarenes in Spanish) are a beautiful mountain range located in northern Spain. These mountains are a natural border between different regions and offer amazing views and unique nature.
Where are the Obarenes Mountains?
The Obarenes Mountains stretch for about 30 kilometers (that's about 18.5 miles!). They are not super tall, with an average height of 800 to 900 meters (around 2,600 to 2,950 feet). To give you an idea, that's like climbing almost three Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other!
This mountain range starts near a place called Hoces del Ebro in Sobrón. This area is where the provinces of Burgos and Álava meet. The mountains then extend all the way to Conchas de Haro in the La Rioja province.
Natural Borders and Rivers
The Obarenes Mountains play an important role as a natural divider. The mighty Ebro River, one of Spain's longest rivers, flows right past these mountains. The Ebro River actually separates the Obarenes Mountains from another famous mountain range, the Cantabrian Mountains. Imagine the river carving its way through the landscape, creating a clear boundary between these two impressive mountain systems!
