Odalric, Count of Barcelona facts for kids
Odalric, also known as Odalrih or Udalrich, was an important ruler in a time long ago. He held several powerful titles, including Count of Barcelona, Girona, Roussillon, and Empúries. He was also a Margrave of Septimania. He ruled these areas from 852 to 858.
Odalric came from a powerful family called the Hunfridings. He was probably the second son of Hunfrid, who was also a Margrave, a type of ruler in charge of a border region.
During Odalric's time, he faced many challenges. There were growing conflicts with the Muslim kingdoms to the south. These were powerful neighbors who often had disagreements with the Frankish lands. At the same time, the large Frankish Empire was having its own problems. The rulers of the Frankish Empire were struggling with who should take over next, which made it harder for them to help Odalric.
